Hugelkultur Bed

The start of a hugelkultur raised bed below the cultivated garden.

In a 8 inch deep by 2.5 feet wide ditch are layers of branches, a rotted birch log and rotting wood used for raised beds, covered with the ditch spill.

The next layer is from an old pile on the property – rotting wood and sawdust.

Compost Bin

Used what was on the property when we arrived to build a compost bin. Used two railroad ties that were laying beside the old shed and some old fencing that was leaning against the chicken coop and some sheets of metal roofing to build the two bin compost structure.  IMG_4612

To keep critters out of the bin I put a bottom on which is screwed to the railway ties and also fastened builders mesh on the inside. There was some old tin roofing which serves well as a roof.

Mobile Kitchen

Walls in kitchen had drywall installed so the fridge and stove had to move out. The fridge is in the living room and we roll the stove in and out of the kitchen with a dolly. We cooked pasta sauce one evening.

In a weird way we are kinda sorta getting used to it. Dishes are done on the glass table on the deck behind the house. The only sink we have is the bathroom off the sun room.
